A rumor that refuses to die

Martin McGuire is known to be the Montreal Canadiens commentator on 98,5 Radio Montreal. He is used to travel around NHL teams and he unveil an interesting rumor last night between the first and second period of the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens matchup. According to McGuire, there are a lot of calls being place for veteran captain Shane Doan as we get closer to march 1st.

"From what we can hear around many press boxes, Shane Doan's name is oftenly cited by scouts and team managements as a potential target" said McGuire on 98,5 FM.

This isn't the first time Doan has to deal with trade rumor. In fact, it would be more fair to say that almost each and every year, Shane Doan trade rumor gets out as soon as we hit the last stretch to the trade deadline.

Arizona Coyotes' GM John Chayka is refuting the Rumor 

"I haven't had any discussions in the last several weeks now," Chayka said. "And like I said on this show, I think it is slightly overblown."John Chayka told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Wednesday.

Reasons it's probably going to happen this year

- Shane Doan will likely want to at least make a long run in the playoffs and the Arizona Coyotes are not close to achieve that as they are rebuilding.

- He can brings a lot of experience and leadership to a contending team which might be ready to pay the big price for him. If the Yotes are rebuilding, they might be tempted to pick up a few talented youngsters in exchange of captain Doan.

- The rumor has been running around for so long, as they say, there is no smoke without fire.

- Doan is in his 21st NHL season and will not be around the league forever, if he wants to move, this is the prime time.
