In what some have speculated could be the final year of his NHL career, Shane Doan was probably hoping for a little bit more success. The veteran forward spoke to Mayor's Manor today and expressed his genuine feelings on the current situation in Arizona.
“Obviously, it’s kind of embarrassing,” said Doan. “As a player, it’s always tough. You never want to be stuck in this situation, but we are and we have to deal with it. The new guys coming in, they’ve played well. We’ve been in games; we just haven’t found ways to win, and that’s the name of it. “It’s just disappointing. You just feel bad, we’ve been bad. There’s no way to get around it. We’ve been bad and we have to be better.”
It's hard to blame him, Doan has been a loyal soldier for one of if not the worst managed franchise in all of North American pro sports, and he continues to see his team fail to produce on a night to night basis after years of patience. Doan has always said that he doesn't want to be traded, he wants to win as a Coyote, but when asked about a potential trade this time  he didn't rule out the possibility.
“I really haven’t thought too much about it, going forward,” he explained. “It’s one of those things – we have 14, 15 games to go. Every game you get to play in the NHL is pretty special. I don’t want to miss those games. I want to make sure I’m focused on them and enjoying the moment that we’re in; not getting caught up worrying about what’s going to happen in the future. “When you get there, it will take care of itself.”
Hopefully he gets at least one more decent run on a good team, he's certainly earned it.
