You just KNEW that this had to happen tonight.
Things really haven't gone according to plan for Shane Wright thus far in his professional career, going back to this summer during the 2022 NHL Draft in which he was expected to be selected with the 1st overall pick. He eventually fell to 4th, where he was taken by the Seattle Kraken. Of course, fans will always remember his stare down of the Montreal Canadiens table as he walked on stage, though he said that was taken out of context.
And after a short stint in the American Hockey League, he was called up prior to tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens, whom many believe spurned him. And as if scripted right out of a movie, he took a centering feed and ripped a shot over the shoulder of goaltender Jake Allen for his first National Hockey League goal:
As he was mobbed by his teammates, Yanni Gourde immediately went to pick up the milestone puck for Wright's keepsake, something that he'll likely keep with him forever.
Talk about an ironic 1st NHL goal!
