On Friday reports of a disturbing arrest involving Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov began to emerge from Russian media outlets, reports that indicated the 25 year old netminder could be facing as much as 2 years in jail.

Fedotov, who was born in Finland but raised in Russia, was arrested after informing the coaching staff of his current team, CSKA Moscow, that he would be leaving the team and the country after signing a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. There have been some reports that the arrest was motivated by revenge after Fedotov signed a deal with the Flyers, but those reports have not been confirmed at this time.

Since those reports were published however, multiple disturbing images and videos have begun to emerge relating to this incident, including a video of Fedotov's actual arrest. By all accounts the Finnish-Russian goaltender did not resist and fully cooperated with officials, but nonetheless found himself in hospital shortly after being detained by military police.

Fedotov was training for this upcoming season and was arrested upon leaving the training facility. You can see the moments leading up to his arrest as well as the arrest itself in the video below. Note the number of people emerging from within and around the white van.

After being taken to the military registration enlistment office, Fedotov reportedly became ill and was taken away in an ambulance. Thus far no reports have been able to indicate what exactly has impacted Fedotov, but he has remained in hospital since being transported there by ambulance.

As you can see from this photograph, Fedotov appeared to be in some distress in the back of the ambulance.

According to the latest report from Match TV, which was published only moments ago, Fedotov is currently at the First Naval Clinic Hospital St. Petersburg.

Fedotov's lawyer is currently trying to work out a deal where he could somehow perform military service while playing under the umbrella of the Flyers organization, although there has been no follow up since his original comments.

"My client is able to perform various assignments in the US and Canada under the right cover. All this will benefit Russia," said Fedotov's lawyer via Telegram.

Update: There were reports, and concerns, that Fedotov could be sent to fight in the Ukraine following this incident, but the latest indications are that this will not be the case. That is of course very good news.
