The New York Rangers have traded veteran forward Vincent Trocheck to the Utah Mammoth. Elliotte Friedman, who's had a busy day, was first to report the transaction.

In return, Emily Kaplan reports that Utah sends back Sean Durzi, Cole Beaudoin, 3rd round pick in 2027 per sources.

The writing had been on the wall for weeks. Back in mid-June, Trocheck made a notable move by switching his representation to Pat Brisson and Creative Artists Agency, one of the most powerful agencies in professional hockey. That decision was widely interpreted as a signal that major business was imminent.

Trocheck had been at the center of intense trade discussions well before the offseason began. At the March trade deadline, multiple contenders reportedly pursued the 32-year-old center, with the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins among the teams most heavily linked. None of those talks resulted in a deal, largely because Rangers general manager Chris Drury set an extraordinarily high asking price.

It looks like the Rangers lowered the price and Utah struck a deal.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were also among the teams said to have expressed interest, giving New York no shortage of leverage in negotiations, but with GM John Chayka so active on Wednesday, it looks like Trocheck fell out of the plans.

For the Mammoth, the acquisition adds a proven, experienced center to a roster still in the early stages of building its identity. For the Rangers, the move likely represents a calculated pivot, turning a valuable asset into pieces that could accelerate their next chapter.
