After viral clips of him back in net, fans wonder if the temptation to return to the NHL is too strong to resist. Watch below:
Beloved goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who recently hung up his skates, may not be done with the NHL just yet. Despite his retirement, Fleury’s passion for the game still burns brightly. In a revealing chat with Minnesota Wild insider Michael Russo, Fleury shared his lingering love for the ice and opened up about his struggles with stepping away from professional hockey, admitting, “Last year, I was done, in my head. But being home and not having that goal to get something, try to go win something, it’s not easy.” His heartfelt confession highlights the challenge many athletes face when transitioning to life after sports.
Russo’s curiosity was piqued, prompting him to probe whether Fleury was considering a return. Although Fleury stopped short of committing to another NHL stint, he disclosed that two teams have already approached him about coming back. Yet, he remains uncertain, stating, “Probably not,” when asked if he’d consider it. The offers are on the table, but Fleury is still weighing his options.
But then fans got excited on Thursday when Fleury was seen practicing with the Wild on the ice. The clips quickly went viral.
You have to wonder if after this, he will be tempted to return…
In his past interview with Russo, he teases the idea of a non-playing comeback, possibly in a development role where his vast experience could be invaluable. He remains humble about coaching, joking, “I’m no coach, you know. I could help younger guys, younger goalies. We’ll see.”
As fans eagerly await Fleury’s next move, it’s clear that his heart remains tethered to the game. Whether he suits up again or transitions into a mentorship role, the hockey world will undoubtedly be watching.
