On Tuesday, the New York Rangers placed forward Juuse Parssinen on waivers with the purpose of assigning hun to their AHL’s farm club.

As expected at the Wednesday deadline, Parssinen cleared, however, the Rangers are now charged with a $100K cap penalty, resulting in an unforced error in New York since the 24-year-old forward is signed through next season.

Parssinen is in the first season of a two-year, $2.5 million contract with an AAV of $1.25 million, which probably also explains why other NHL teams did not make a claim for him.

It feels like this is the perfect representation of the mess that’s been taking place in NYC since the start of the season. Ahead of tonight’s busy calendar, the Rangers are last in the Metropolitan Division with a 11-11-2 record. They face the first-place Carolina Hurricanes later tonight.

As for Parssinen, he has put up two goals and one assist in 14 games with the Rangers this season. He is a seventh-round pick (210th overall) by theNashville Predators in 2019 and made his NHL debut on Nov. 12, 2022.

Back in 2024-25, he was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 28, where he spent two months before being traded again on March 1 to New York, along with Calvin de Haan and two draft picks in exchange for Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey and Hank Kempf.

In all, Parssinen has skated in 151 career NHL games, scoring 22 goals with 56 points, split between the Predators, Avalanche and Rangers, who will now have to pay up to send him down.
