Waiver Update: Sonny Milano, Anders Bjork.

Monday's waiver wire.

It's a relatively quiet October Monday in the National Hockey League today and that extends to today's NHL waiver wire with only two players to mention, one of which is of course Washington Capitals forward Sonny Milano who was signed over the weekend and subsequently placed on waivers by the Capitals on Sunday.

The good news for fans of the Capitals is that Milano has passed through the waiver process unclaimed which means that he will remain under the Capitals umbrella, however it also means that he will be headed down to the American Hockey League where he will join the Hershey Bears, the Capitals AHL affiliate. It seems likely that we will see Milano at the NHL level at some point during the regular season, but with so many teams up against the NHL's salary cap the squeeze has really been put on most teams around the league.

Milano had 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points over 66 regular season games as a member of the Anaheim Ducks during the 2021-22 NHL regular season.

The other play to talk about today is former Boston Bruins 5th round pick (146th overall) at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft Anders Bjork. The Buffalo Sabres forward was the only player placed on waivers today, with the Sabres doing so before Bjork has appeared in even a single game for them this season. The 26 year old winger made 58 appearances for the Buffalo Sabres last season, scoring 5 goals and adding 3 assists for a total of 8 points, and I think it is relatively unlikely that we will see a rival NHL team submitting a claim for him.
