He publicly insulted both Tkachuk brothers and now he's been traded.
The Florida Panthers made a relatively minor trade over the weekend when they sent Slovakian forward prospect Oliver Okuliar to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Finnish defenseman Emil Pieniniemi. The trade itself wasn't the biggest story in the world, but what may be an even bigger story is the potential reason Okuliar was traded.
Following the trade on Saturday, many were quick to point out that Okuliar had gone on the record a few months earlier and made comments that were highly critical of his now former teammate Matthew Tkachuk as well as Matthew's brother Brady Tkachuk. Okuliar encountered the two men during his participation in the 2026 Winter Olympic games where the Tkachuks were representing the United States of America while Okuliar was representing his home country of Slovakia.
It's not hard to see why Okuliar's comments may not have gone over well within the walls of the Florida Panthers' organization.
"They're scumbags, both of them," said Oliver Okuliar after the semi-final. "They're not even good hockey players, they just do this shit, that's exactly their style."
Okuliar has never played a single game for the Panthers in the NHL so it wouldn't have been that difficult a decision to part ways with him, this in spite of the fact that Okuliar is coming off of a championship winning season in the Swedish Hockey League.
Okuliar made the comments just 4 short months ago and now finds his rights traded to a different NHL team, it is just a coincidence or something more?
