Potential owner of an NHL franchise is Las Vegas Bill Foley doesn't even officially have a team yet and he's already talking about making moves. Foley made comments on Monday about how he plans to lure top free agents away from other teams and bring them over to Vegas. Specifically Foley mentioned teams in California and the teams North of the border for his potential free agent plans.
"I can go to every guy in California and say, 'The first thing I'm gonna do is save you 14 percent. That's what you're paying over there,'" said Foley via the Las Vegas Sun. "And how about the Canadians? … They pay a ton."
What he's referring to there is the amount of tax players would be forced to pay with his franchise as opposed to any other, and while 14% may not sound like a giant number, when you have a multi-million dollar deal it can have a major impact on a player. Las Vegas would already be an attractive city to many players simply for the lifestyle, but if you add the fact that they could save hundreds of thousands of dollars simply for playing in that market, and you could have a serious contender right out of the gate.
