It’s the offseason and Tom Wilson is not thinking about scoring goals, but instead more focused than ever about throwing some serious punches. The Washington Capitals’ tough guy isn’t just skating into the season, he’s gearing up like a fighter stepping into the ring.

This summer, Wilson’s been honing his left and right hooks with none other than MMA coach and Spanish National Kickboxing champ Jorge Blanco. The two sparred it out in Toronto, making sure Wilson’s fight game is sharp as ever ahead of the 2025-26 season. On top of that, Wilson’s still grinding with longtime trainer Matt Nichol at Paragenix Systems, keeping that conditioning top-tier.

Wilson has also been enjoying some time off this summer, soaking up some family time, vacationing and even hitting a beach volleyball tournament with his wife, pro player Taylor Pischke. He has however been spending a lot of time at the gym for serious training.

After all, Wilson is fresh off a career-best season with 33 goals and 65 points in 81 games, and has been looking to improve the physical part of his game with Blanco.

He is also eyeing bigger battles following an invite to Team Canada’s orientation camp means Wilson’s gearing up for a shot at the Winter Olympics in Milan.

If his offseason fight training is any indication, opponents better watch out: Wilson’s ready to scrap on and off the ice this year.
