Wayne Gretzky could get back to coaching

What do you think about that?

A decade ago, the Great One Wayne Gretzky decided to step down as head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, but it seems that the past experiences might not have dissuade him to get back to bench bossing.

According to the panel on Insider Trading on TSN, Hockey Canada has been trying to convince Gretzky to get back behind the bench in time for the Spengler Cup.

Insider Pierre LeBrun reached out to Gretzky on Tuesday, who had this to say about the offer from Sean Burke

“It was a nice surprise when Sean called,” Gretzky told LeBrun Tuesday. “I thanked him. I was excited about it. Team Canada is pretty special. I think the Spengler Cup is the oldest tournament that we know of. It’s a pretty nice honour. I told him I needed some time (to sort things out). The only problem for me is that it’s over Christmastime. It’s a tough decision to make.
“So, we’re talking about it and debating it,” added Gretzky. “But it’s a great honour that he reached out.”

We know Gretzky did not get much success as the bench boss of the Coyotes more than 10 years ago as he went 143-161-24 in Phoenix. However, he’s always been proud to represent Canada and the national team has always benefited from having the legend on board.

And we’re talking the Spengler Cup, not a return to the NHL. This could be a great thing for Gretzky and especially team Canada.
