Last season was a roller coaster year for Toronto Maple Leafs scrappy veteran forward Wayne Simmonds, who has bounced back and forth between the big club and their American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies a handful of times.

His future with the Leafs appears bleak at best, as he will almost certainly not be back with the organization next year. This was essentially sealed by the Leafs bringing aboard tough customer Ryan Reaves, a younger version of Simmonds who can still chip in with the occasional appearance in the scoring column.

Is there a chance that Simmonds could receive a professional tryout offer from one of his former clubs? According to Flyers writer Jamey Baskow, don't be surprised to see a tryout offer come from Philadelphia.

Simmonds was part of the major trade in 2011 from the Los Angeles Kings to the Flyers that saw then-Flyers captain Mike Richards head back to Hollywood. He spent several years with the Flyers and became a bonafide offensive threat as well as a fan favorite. In recent years, his stats have declined as he's bounced around the NHL.

In 1,037 career NHL games, Simmonds has scored 263 goals with 263 assists while also racking up 1,313 penalty minutes.
