Wayne Simmonds has words for Brad Marchand that aren't “child friendly”
From one notorious trash talker to another.
It will be an Original 6 tilt tonight at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, as the host Toronto Maple Leafs will be taking on the Boston Bruins in the regular season finale in what could also serve as a potential Round 1 matchup.
Of course, it will also feature two of the NHL's better trash talkers in veteran forwards Brad Marchand and Wayne Simmonds. And while the two of them were once teammates for Team Canada at the World Juniors, it doesn't mean that playing against one another has come any easier over the years.
"Marchy is...I've known him for a long time and we played the World Juniors together back in '08, so I have a little bit of a relationship with him," Simmonds said before chuckling.
"I could say some things, but it wouldn't be child-friendly," he said to laughter from media members. "Yeah, he's a great competitor out there and he'll do anything it takes to win. You have to respect that as an opponent, but at the same time, you can use it against him a little bit. He's an unbelievable player, one of the best in the League, and he chips in more than points wise for his team."
"There's no friends on the ice, ever."
Of course, Marchand recently came in 1st place in a recent NHLPA poll of players being asked who they dislike playing against the most and yet would love to have as a teammate. And while Simmonds certainly isn't the player he once was that could rack up the points as well as the penalty minutes, he's still a valuable presence in the locker room for the younger players on the team.
Tonight's game will begin at 7:00 PM EST. Whether or not the Bruins remain in Toronto for the opening round of the postseason remains to be seen.
