Vitek Vanecek on the move:
The New Jersey Devils have acquired a goalie on the second day of the NHL Draft on Friday. The Devils acquire Vitek Vanecek, along with pick 46 from the Washington Capitals in return for picks Nos. 37 and 70.
Vanecek started in the same amount of games as Ilya Samsonov in Washington this season. He got the opportunity to start Game One in the postseason against the Florida Panthers, but ultimately yielded the net to Samsonov in Game Two after a poor performance. Both players were set to receive a qualifying offer as pending restricted free agents, but talks of a move in net for the Capitals emerge early in the summer.
Vanecek posted a 2.67 GAA and .908 save percentage behind a 20-12-6 record in 42 games during the 2021-22 season. He was drafted 39th overall by the Capitals in the 2014 NHL Entry draft, and has played his entire career with the Capitals.
The 26-year-old goalie is coming off a three-year, $2.150 million contract with the Capitals, that has an average annual value of $716,667.
The goalie carrousel keeps turning in the NHL...
