It's the most wonderful time of the year!
The NHL's playoff field is now set... kinda.
While we know all 16 teams who will compete for the Stanley Cup, we don't yet know how all the matches will shake down. We how, however, know three matches that are officially locked in. Let's take a closer look:
The teams flipped spots in the standings last night and it remains to be seen who will get home ice advantage, but this matchup is locked in. Both teams feature high powered offense and should provide fans with plenty of highlights.
The Habs, of course, are young, hungry and ready to make it on the scene while the Bolts are battle tested and eager to get back to the pinnacle of the sport. This will be 'Must-See-TV'.
The Battle of Pennsylvania is back!
Not many people had either the Penguins or the Flyers getting back into the playoffs this season, much less both teams. These two teams obviously have a ton of history and fans are no doubt hoping for a blood bath between bitter rivals.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby may be making his final playoff appearance and he kicks it off against his team's biggest rival. How great is that?
This matchup has been set for a few days now, but that doesn't make it any less compelling. The original Minnesota NHL franchise vs the next generation NHL franchise. Interestingly enough the Wild just surpassed the North Stars in longevity this season, so maybe we offer up the North Stars' history to whomever wins this series?
In all seriousness, this will be a heavyweight matchup. Both teams are considered Stanley Cup contenders, but only one will make it past the first round. Sign me up for an old fashioned slobber knocker!
