We now know the first team linked to Kucherov in trade talks

The speculation surrounding Nikita Kucherov's future with the Tampa Bay Lightning has taken an interesting turn, with a new team reportedly entering the conversation.

Kucherov is one of the most talented offensive players in the NHL, and the possibility of the Lightning superstar becoming available on the trade market would undoubtedly send shockwaves throughout the league. Now, according to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Chicago Blackhawks are the first team to be linked to Kucherov in trade discussions.

For Chicago, the possibility of landing Kucherov would represent a massive statement of intent as the Blackhawks continue building toward becoming a legitimate Stanley Cup contender again. Adding a player of Kucherov's calibre would instantly transform their offensive attack and give their young core an opportunity to play alongside one of the best forwards of his generation.

Of course, there are some significant obstacles. Kucherov has a modified no-trade clause that allows him to submit a 10-team list of destinations he would accept. Chicago would need to be among those destinations, and the Blackhawks would also have to put together a substantial package to convince Tampa Bay general manager Julien BriseBois to reconsider his position.

That last part is particularly important. BriseBois has publicly indicated that the Lightning have no intention of trading their superstar, despite Kucherov's reported request to leave Tampa Bay.

Still, the fact that Chicago is now being connected to the situation is certainly worth watching. Kucherov is coming off another outstanding stretch of hockey and remains an elite offensive talent.

If the Lightning eventually decide they cannot repair their relationship with Kucherov, expect plenty of teams to come calling. The Blackhawks could now be one of the most intriguing potential destinations to monitor.
