Hockey's best and brightest insiders were together again last night and they had some interesting insight into activity around the NHL. The juiciest tidbit to come out of the segment came from ESPN's Pierre Lebrun. Lebrun confirmed a report from McKenzie that suggest the Coyotes are looking to sell and sell big before the trade deadline. Lebrun however had one extra piece of information, it appears new owner Andrew Barroway has now signed off the the fire sale that it seemed GM Don Maloney was looking for. It's important to note that Barroway made it clear he's not just looking to tank, he wants to go into full rebuild mode with his new team. That means Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette must be moved by the deadline. Lebrun's colleague Daren Dreger focused his attention on the Winnipeg Jets. It appears that with the Jets getting healthier on defense they are looking to make a move that will make them more competitive in terms of the post season. Dreger stated that Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is looking to trade one of those defensemen for a 3rd line winger. Dreger also made it clear that Jacob Trouba is untouchable as far as Cheveldayoff is concerned. In that same vein Mike Richards came up and apparently the Kings are aggressively seeking a move that would take his albatross contract off their books. The Kings have reportedly contacted the Jets and worked hard to make them an offer that could entice them to take on Richards, but so far it seems the Jets are completely unwilling to saddle themselves that contract. There has also been mention of a similar offer to the Cancuks. Lebrun commented on the Canucks who are in search of a top six forward, and what was interesting about Lebrun's comments was the urgency he indicated Jim Benning is feeling. Benning wants a new top 6 forward now, he does not want to wait for the trade deadline. What is making it difficult for the Canucks to make the move is the fact that Benning has indicated he isn't interested in rentals, he wants a player he can hold on to at least through the 2015-2016 season. One of the most talked about defenseman this season has been Ottawa's Marc Methot, it has seemed at time that Methot being traded was only a matter of time, but according to TSN's Insiders Methot has fired his agent and in the hopes of making a deal with Ottawa a reality, however the insiders indicated that Ottawa may still be more interested in trading Methot at the deadline. Last but not least Daren Dreger had some very interesting comments on the future of goaltender Martin Brodeur. According to Dreger the St. Louis Blues have every intention of keeping Brodeur within their organization even if it's with him off the ice. Dreger even mentioned that the Blues have already begun working on the transition of Brodeur as an executive within the Blues organization. It would be an interesting turn of events if Brodeur making a long time executive with a team other than New Jersey, and more than a little surprising.
