With Free Agency starting tomorrow, we have to ask ourselves what do we think Peter Chiarelli's main focus will be. He added some nice pieces during the draft and will most likely be looking to add a few more. The Oilers have a good amount of cap space, so they can pretty much go out and get who they want. However, with the progress made and some current Oilers who need to be resigned, it isn't the time to just go throwing money at anyone and I doubt that the was the plan anyways. Mike Green is one of the more tempting free agents. However, his style is very similar to that of Justin Schultz, who is a restricted free agent and is 5 years younger than Green. Green has dropped off a bit in the last years but can become the Oilers quarterback on the power play. With Brad Richards and Antoine Vermette having just won a cup with Chicago, either of them would be solid pickups to give the Oilers some needed veteran leadership and get a winning attitude in the room. They both play center but imagine them playing on the wing with McDavid, showing him the ropes and being there when he needs some guidance. Other names out there are Justin Williams, Martin St.Louis, Cody Franson, Andrej Sekera, Francois Beauchemin, etc.. All of these guys could definitely fill some holes that are needed to be filled for the Oilers. The question always remains how much will be needed to sign these players and who will fit in the best with the current core of Oilers.
