RCMP address the investigation and whether charges are being considered.
On Monday, three members of the Southern Alberta Mustangs junior hockey team were killed in a motor vehicle collision south of Calgary, Alberta. The team, part of the U.S. Premier Hockey League’s Premier Division, confirmed the devastating news in a social media post just hours after the crash.

The players were travelling together in a single vehicle when they were involved in the fatal accident.
According to CTV News, the Claresholm RCMP, who responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a gravel-hauling semi-truck, have confirmed that no criminal charges are expected.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the semi was travelling northbound on Highway 2 and the passenger vehicle was going eastbound across Highway 2 at the time of the collision,” said Cpl. Gina Slaney of the Alberta RCMP on Tuesday.
Slaney explained that there is no traffic light at the intersection, and southbound drivers must cross two northbound lanes to access the town. She added that weather conditions were clear at the time of the collision and that visibility was not obstructed for either driver.
RCMP stated that the families of the victims, as well as the other driver involved, would be informed of the findings. Given that the incident has been ruled an accident, no further updates are expected.
The Alberta government did however say it will review an intersection as the provincial transportation ministry takes fatal collisions seriously and that it’s common practice to review them.
The truck driver, from Stavely, received minor injuries. The identities of the three players who lost their lives were later confirmed by the team:
Caden Fine, a centre whose hometown was listed as Birmingham, Alabama
JJ Wright, a left winger from Kamloops, British Columbia
Cameron Casorso, a goaltender, also from Kamloops, British Columbia
The hockey community is mourning the loss of three young lives taken far too soon.
Gone, but never forgotten.
