We all knew it was going to be a tough year for the Leafs. Management came right out and said and so did the coaching staff. There were going to be growing pains while the Leafs look to rebuild and turn things around.

So far most of that has been true. As of right now, the Leafs are tied for last place in the league with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Edmonton Oilers. The other two teams were teams who were expecting to be a lot better so there is that.

However, out of all this losing, there has been some positive. Morgan Rielly is showing signs of taking over as the Leafs power play quarterback and is developing into one heck of a defenseman. He has put up some decent numbers with 5 goals and 17 assists in 48 games and he is only -2 on the season. He is only 21 and is going to get so much better.

As for the Leafs' All Star, who ever thought it would be Leo Komarov? I will take that silence as no one. Yet, he has had a pretty solid year for Toronto with 16 goals and 15 assists in 48 games. More known as a checker, he has grown into a more reliable scorer on a team that needs guys to step up.

So yeah, constantly losing is never fun. But if the Leafs continue the course and slowly grow the rest of this season, there might be a chance of adding a player like Austin Matthews and that is never a bad thing either.
