Which NHL coach will be fired first in 2017-18?

No one is ever really safe, but these guys will be feeling the heat more than others. Who’ll be the first to go?

Five coaches were fired during the 2016-17 NHL season. Some, like former Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien and former Florida Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant were released in dramatic fashion while others, like former Vancouver Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins and former Dallas Stars head coach Lindy Ruff, were more or less expected. With another season quickly approaching, let’s take a look at five head coaches currently in the NHL who will be feeling some extra pressure in 2017-18.

If things don’t get off to a good start for these coaches, they could find themselves out of work sooner rather than later:

5. Jared Bednar - Colorado Avalanche
4. John Hynes - New Jersey Devils
3. Dave Hakstol - Philadelphia Flyers
2. Paul Maurice - Winnipeg Jets
1. Barry Trotz - Washington Capitals

Could you imagine Trotz hitting the open market as a head coach? We suspect that a team may pull a Therien/Julien swap with Trotz much like the Montreal Canadiens did last year when the Bruins released Julien.

In any case, who do you think is most likely to be fired first?
