Whooping offer on the table for Mikko Rantanen revealed!

In the middle of the night and earlier this morning, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Fridman reported that the Carolina Hurricanes had a framework of a deal in place that would send Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars. After the two teams reportedly agreed on the particulars, the Stars began negotiations on an extension with Rantanen, who is said to be willing to sign there.

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the offer is a whooping one out of Texas:

“See where it goes, but I’m confident the Dallas Stars are/were willing to go to upwards of $12 million per to extend Rantanen. A big number for the Stars given contract challenges moving forward. Unless something changes, that’s well short.”

I’d be willing to sign there too at that price.

The former Colorado Avalanche superstar was reportedly offered a lucrative contract offer by the Hurricanes during the 4 Nations Face-Off, exceeding the $100 million mark. Rantanen was given some time to provide Carolina with an answer, though he is said to have turned down the deal. He was acquired by the Hurricanes in a shocking mid-season monster trade deal that caught absolutely everyone off guard, including Rantanen himself.

It was clear that Dallas would not offer as much as the Canes on an extension for Rantanen, though state taxes are playing an important part as well here in the negotiations.

In 13 games with the Hurricanes since joining the club on a significant trade at the end of January, Rantanen has collected two goals and four assists for six points. He has 27 goals and 43 points for 70 points in 62 games total this season.

Rantanen’s the biggest name to watch at this year’s deadline.
