This past April saw the long anticipated return to action for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price against the Washington Capitals in front of a rocking crowd at Bell Centre. The former Hart-Trophy winning goaltender had missed the entire 2021-22 season up until that point after checking himself into the NHL's Player Assistance Program, as well as rehabilitating from offseason surgery.
For his combined efforts, Price was awarded the Bill Masteron Trophy for his perseverance and dedication to hockey. But unfortunately, the latest updates have been anything but good.
Price, who had received injections into his knee earlier this summer, was scheduled to meet with a doctor in July, but the appointment was cancelled. It wouldn't be long afterward that Habs GM Kent Hughes announced that Price would be unlikely to play in the upcoming 2022-23 season, casting a shadow of doubt over his future hockey career.
Earlier today, Carey's wife Angela made a plea on social media in which she requested well wishers to leave comments of support and encouragement for her husband.
"My inbox is full of people asking me how they can write a message to Carey to make sure he reads it. So I'm posting this message here for you to leave your comments and I'll have him read it when he's ready." - Angela Price
Of course, it wouldn't be long before the messages began flooding in. Fans and former teammates alike certainly hold Price in high regard, and are hoping that he's able to return to the ice as soon as possible.
He's in the midst of an eight-year, $84 million contract. In addition to the Hart Trophy, Price is also a two-time Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL's top goaltender.
