Wife of KHL star Sokolov brutally attacked and murdered by her own son

According to multiple Russian language news outlets, the wife of former KHL goaltender and current SKA Saint Petersburg coach Maxim Sokolov was attacked and murdered by her own 18 year old son.

According to Sport-Express in Russia, Maxim’s wife Irina was killed by her son, also named Maxim, while the elder Maxim was not at home. The couple’s youngest son Arseny, aged 15, was also attacked but fought back and now his brother is in hospital in serious condition with wounds to his neck, chest and wrists.

Check out this disturbing account of the attack according to CrimeRussia.com:

He [Arseny] was at home in the evening when Max came into his room and tried to strangle him and then stabbed him with a knife. Arseny managed to fight off and ran off to the neighbors asking for help. When the boy returned to the house with pensioner Roman Gatchenko, the mother was already dead.
Then, according to Arseny, he lost control and attacked his brother, stabbing him in the chest and neck. According to the hockey player's youngest son, Maxim said a week ago that he was preparing a ritual murder of the whole family. It is also known that Maxim suffered cancer, and his mother nursed him for a long time.

It’s important to note that the investigation is still ongoing and that investigators have not ruled out the possibility that Arseny perpetrated both attacks, as the younger Maxim is unable to speak currently and cannot provide any information.

Maxim Sokolov Sr. is a big figure in the Russian national team and has represented the nation at several World Championships, as well was the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
