Insider Pierre LeBrun says Minnesota’s all-in approach may not be finished yet.
The Minnesota Wild have already made waves earlier this month, acquiring superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster trade. But insiders suggest they weren’t done there.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Wild made a trade offer for Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood in recent weeks, signaling the team is fully committed to bolstering its roster.
“I believe the Wild actually made a trade offer for Kiefer Sherwood a couple weeks ago… and so I think it just tells you that the Wild are all in,” LeBrun said on Melnick in the Afternoon before the holiday break.
Sherwood has been a standout for Vancouver, playing 36 games this season with 16 goals, four assists, and an impressive 164 hits. Last year, he racked up 462 hits, 19 goals, and 21 assists across 78 games, proving his combination of grit and scoring ability.
At a modest $1.5 million salary, Sherwood is an affordable asset with appeal to multiple teams, making him a strong candidate to generate significant return for Vancouver if they decide to move him.
For the Wild, targeting Sherwood fits their “all-in” approach, adding a hard-nosed forward who can both score and bring physicality to the lineup. With Quinn Hughes already shaking up Minnesota’s blue line, adding Sherwood would be another clear signal that the team isn’t holding back as the playoff push looms.
Fans will be watching closely when the trade freeze lifts after the weekend, wondering if the Wild will strike again and how the Canucks respond to interest in one of their most versatile forwards.
