This came out of nowhere.

The Minnesota Wild have already made the decision to terminate head coach Dean Evason following their lackluster start to the 2023-24 NHL season, replacing him with former Devils and Predators head coach John Hynes.

But now, it's been announced that the Wild have terminated a key front office member in assistant general manager Chris O’Hearn. The team announced the news on their social media page just minutes ago, with no official reason given for the move.

Via reporter Michael Russo:

From the #mnwild:

“Chris O’Hearn and the Minnesota Wild have mutually agreed to part ways. The Wild will not comment further on this matter.”

This is obviously huge, out of the blue news. O’Hearn was Bill Guerin’s right-hand man and AGM since 2019 and chief contract negotiator.

This is certainly an interesting development, to say the least - especially with O'Hearn's status as Guerin's "right-hand man".
