Wild trim down training camp roster with a big round of cuts.
The Minnesota Wild have made a significant number of cuts to their current training camp roster, bringing the number of players on that roster down to just 52.
On Monday, the Wild sent forwards Chase Wutzke, Adam Benak, Lirim Amidovski and Carter Klippenstein back down to their respective junior teams, a move that came as relatively little surprise given the current stage of their development. All of these players are 19 years old or younger and were late to mid round picks at the National Hockey League Entry Draft, an indication that they still need some seasoning before seriously contending for spots on the Wild's NHL roster.
The Wild also had forwards Matthew Sop and Ryan McGuire as well as goaltender William Rousseau on their training camp roster with professional tryout offers, and all 3 of these young men are now being sent down to join the Wild's American Hockey League affiliate team, the Iowa Wild.
The Wild also had defensemen Rowan Topp and Jordan Tourigny in camp on amateur tryout offers and unfortunately for both young men they have now been released from those contracts.
None of these moves come as a major surprise, this is unfortunately the reality of NHL training camps at this time of the year, but it is a sign that the Wild are starting to kick things into high gear with the 2025-26 NHL regular season right around the corner.
Stay tuned for more developments as the Wild continue to get closer to finalizing their roster.
