Wild getting ready to make the biggest move behind the bench?!

A few weeks before Monday's trade deadline, Minnesota Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau had guaranteed that his team would make the postseason. A day later, team general manager Paul Fenton made it clear that he had gotten the green light to make trades ahead of the deadline, even if it meant that the Wild would fall out of playoff contention.

Fenton ended up moving forwards Charlie Coyle, Matt Hendricks and Mikael Granlund. They had also moved forward Nino Niederreiter to the Carolina Hurricanes earlier in January.

It appears that tension has risen in Minnesota as coach Boudreau and his lineup still attempt as much as they can to clinch a playoff berth. Prior to Friday night's action, the Wild currently sits in the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with 68 points, and along with the Colorado Avalanche breathing down its neck.

Earlier this week, NHL insider Darren Dreger addressed the many changes in Minnesota on the air of TSN 1040 and hinted at the fact that Fenton might not be done. He may actually be trying to make the biggest move behind the bench by firing coach Boudreau at the end of the season...

“I think that there’s a whole lot of work that needs to get done. I’m not there, so this is a bit of an unfair comment - I get a bad vibe around the Minnesota Wild, and I’m not entirely sure why. You wonder - and this is just wild speculation again - on the future of Bruce Boudreau, who I happen to think is an excellent coach. But he wasn’t a coach hired by Paul Fenton. Paul Fenton, he inherited Bruce Boudreau, and I think Bruce Boudreau has got one of those unique contracts where if he’s not coaching, he has the wherewithal to be an advisor, any of those things.
“So to me, from an Insider perspective, leading up to the trade deadline and what Fenton and the Minnesota Wild did Monday - and what they didn’t do, or more importantly in Calgary with the Jason Zucker deal that didn’t happen - that tells me that Fenton is wanting to reshape the Minnesota Wild.
“So maybe there’s a lot more to come leading up to the draft and on the draft floor.”

It remains to be seen if Fenton will change his mind after he sees what Boudreau can accomplish for the rest of the regular calendar. We will definitely have to keep an eye out on the Wild, no matter what happens in the coming weeks.
