The Minnesota Wild’s search for a new general manager continues and it is getting somewhat controversial…

The Wild has decided to make a bold move and has interviewed a current NHL general manager.

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, “in addition to the Wild interviewing Pittsburgh Penguins assistant GM Bill Guerin on Monday afternoon for the second consecutive offseason, multiple sources tell The Athletic that owner Craig Leipold and team president Matt Majka interviewed current Carolina Hurricanes president, general manager and alternate governor Don Waddell on Monday morning.”

Last week as Paul Fenton was fired from his position in Minnesota, Russo revealed that Waddell did not have a current contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, therefore acting as GM essentially for free the past month.

The Wild is also believed to have held interviews with former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall and Peter Chiarelli

Last spring, Canes owner Tom Dundon revealed to NHL’s Tom Gulitti how he did not need a contract to trust and love working with Waddell…

His story might change now that Waddell is getting calls from the Wild and could simply walk away to take that job in Minnesota.

Wild move from the Wild!
