The Minnesota Wild are going all in.
After acquiring winger Bobby Brink from the Philadelphia Flyers in return for young defenseman David Jiricek on Friday, the Wild is back on the acquisition again, trading for Chicago Blackhawks' captain Nick Foligno.
Sources claim the return is only future considerations with the Hawks doing a huge favour to the older Foligno. No salary retained, seeing that Chicago does not have any more slots.
Nick Foligno therefore makes his way to Minnesota, where he will join his brother Marcus. He had come close to signing to play with his brother in 2021, but ended up choosing the Boston Bruins in tough decision instead.
Nick Foligno is in the final year of his contract with a $4.5 million cap hit. He has collected three goals and eight assists in 37 games this season.
The Foligno brothers will now play together on the same team for the first time in their careers. And they will compete together this year in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Wild has been quite active on the trade block in recent days. Earlier today, they shipped young defenseman David Jiricek to the Philadelphia Flyers in a one-for-one swap for winger Bobby Brink. On Thursday, the Wild added more depth, acquiring veteran blue liner Jeff Petry from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026.
They also acquired Michael McCarron, trading a 2028 second-round pick to the Nashville Predators for fourth-line center earlier this week.
And let’s not forget how the Wild acquired Quinn Hughes in one of the biggest trade of the season back in December.
