Wild scrap during Habs vs. Maple Leafs rookie camp.

The Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs rivalry continued to heat up on Saturday during rookie camp.

The rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs is getting off to an early and rather heated start this season.

The two teams faced off on Saturday during a scrimmage game that was a part of rookie training camp for both teams, with things quickly devolving into some serious physicality very early on in the game.

It would be Florian Xhekaj of the Habs, younger brother of Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj, and Chaz Sharpe of the Maple Leafs that would throw down with both players swinging with wild abandon as they tried to make an impression on their respective teams.

Much like his brother, Florian appeared to show little concern for defense and was instead focused on delivering as much punishment as possible to his opponent, this in spite of the fact that Sharpe never lost his helmet. To his credit Sharpe tried to give as good as he got, swinging with some big and heavy haymakers as he tried to connect with one massive punch at a time.

The officials on the ice let these two go and the fight would eventually end when Sharpe lost his balance and fell to the ice, resulting in the officials stepping in and separating the two men.

Here is a wide angle of the exchange:

Here it is a second time, this one from closer up:
