Wild sign Brandon Duhaime to a new deal on Sunday.
The Minnesota Wild have come to terms on a new deal with 26 year old former fourth round pick Brandon Duhaime.
Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin has completed a small piece of business today.
National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news on Sunday when he revealed that the Wild and restricted free agent forward Brandon Duhaime had avoided arbitration, coming to terms on a new one-year deal worth $1.1 million.
Duhaime appeared in just 51 games for the Wild this past season, scoring 9 goals and adding a single assist for a total of 10 points. The 26 year old forward will be betting on himself with this deal as he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this current contract. A strong performance from Duhaime this season could put him in a favorable position when it comes to free agency next summer, when the Wild will no longer control his rights.
The arbitration process can be a difficult one for both team and player and the Wild were set to go before an arbitrator with Duhaime this coming Thursday. This deal will now avoid that process entirely, something that will no doubt prove beneficial for both parties involved.
