Disaster has struck the Toronto Maple Leafs just moments before a big game on Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators.

Maple Leafs star forward William Nylander has just taken the Maple Leafs starting netminder out of the game during warmups after reportedly firing a hard shot that struck Anthony Stolarz directly in the head. While Stolarz was wearing his protective mask, the shot was apparently enough that Stolarz will not be able to participate in tonight's game.

There is so little time between the injury and the start of the game itself that it will be impossible for the Maple Leafs to get a replacement called up in time, so we may be looking at another Emergency Backup Goalie situation for the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The timing is terrible for the Leafs who genuinely had something to play for tonight despite the playoffs being nothing more than a pipe dream for them at this stage of the season. The Ottawa Senators are the Maple Leafs' bitter rivals and a win tonight from the Leafs would seriously damage Ottawa's chances of making the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Now that Stolarz is out of action however, the odds of pulling off an upset just got that much longer.

Update: Stolarz has been taken to hospital.
