Nylander speaks out after causing quite the controversy on Sunday.
In spite of the fact that he was still out due to injury, Toronto Maple Leafs star forward William Nylander created quite a few headlines on Sunday after some naughty behavior from Nylander was caught on camera.
Nylander and several members of his team who were also out of the lineup on Sunday were sitting in the press box during the game's third period when, seemingly out of nowhere, Nylander appeared to get annoyed by the attention from the camera and directed a rude gesture in its direction.
The result was an extremely mixed reaction on social media with some finding the gesture from Nylander to be the height of comedy, while other fans felt it was incredibly inappropriate especially when you consider his team is struggling quite badly as of late.
It would seem that the backlash reached all the way back to Nylander, who quickly took to social media to explain himself and offer an apology to anyone who may have been offended by the gesture. Much to his credit, Nylander didn't try to play it off as a joke but instead admitted that he had acted poorly in a moment of anger.
"Only love for Leafs nation sorry about my moment of frustration today! didn't mean to upset anyone," wrote Nylander. "Looking forward to being back on the ice and not in the stands love willy."
Nylander posted the apology to his Instagram story which means that it won't be up forever, but you can see the screenshot of the original post just below:
