William Nylander responds to the threat from Matthew Tkachuk ahead of Game 5.
Game 5 of the second round series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers is gearing up to be a spicy one indeed and dare I say, it might be must-see TV for hockey fans that have been tuning into the Stanley Cup playoffs thus far.
The intensity in this series ramped up considerably at the end of Game 4 when Maple Leafs forward Max Domi delivered a dangerous hit to Panthers star Aleksander Barkov in the final seconds of that game. Domi hit Barkov from behind and drove him into the boards, which in turn resulted in the Panthers vowing revenge.
That promise would come courtesy of Matthew Tkachuk who issued a clear threat to Maple Leafs star William Nylander just seconds after Domi had delivered his hit on Barkov.
Following the conclusion of the game, Nylander was one of the Maple Leafs who spoke to members of the media and it was during his media scrum that he was asked about the threat from Tkachuk. If the threat had done anything to phase the Maple Leafs star, Nylander did a great job of hiding it.
"Just talk, I mean that's what he does," said Nylander smiling from ear to ear as he answered.
Nylander was asked if the comments from Tkachuk had phased him at all, with the Maple Leafs star admitting that the threat from Tkachuk had him even more excited for the next game than usual.
"I mean he'll probably do whatever he can to get a player off their game but... next game is gonna be a fun one," added Nylander.
Game 5 goes Wednesday night as the Panthers travel back to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.
