William Nylander trade proposal gets Leafs’ fans going!

The Maple Leafs were undoubtedly right to re-sign forward William Nylander at the free agent deadline in 2018-19, but the focus has now quickly been put on his next contract and if Toronto will be able to keep him on the roster.
This prompted Nick Kypreos to suggest a trade to move Nylander out of Toronto in the hopes of getting some cap relief, but also an interesting return in the transaction. That’s how he came up with the option of sending Nylander to the Anaheim Ducks in return for defenseman Brandon Montour and forward Nick Ritchie.
Kypreos’ point is that Nylander’s might ask too much on his next contract and could therefore hinder the Maple Leafs’ future.
However, his proposal got fans so angry, wondering why general manager Kyle Dubas would agree to such a lopsided deal with Nylander being one of the most valuable players on Toronto’s roster.
Nylander is tied in second place with Auston Matthews at 40 points, just one behind teammate Mitch Marner on the roster. He may have ended last night’s 6-3 loss at the hands of the Arizona Coyotes with an awful -4 rating, he has still put up 21 goals and 19 assists in 36 games this season.
There is no sign - yet - that the Maple Leafs are looking to move Nylander, but fans do know how Matthews’ contract expires at the same time as Nylander’s, while Marner and John Tavares see their deals come to an end the following year, in 2025.
Tough choices will have to be made.
And maybe this trade is a better option than losing Nylander for nothing when free agency hits. What do you say?
