The Toronto Maple Leafs’ fanbase got excited on Wednesday when star forward William Nylander was trending all over Twitter.

Nylander is reportedly looking for a new contract north of $10M in Toronto, however, it is obvious that the Maple Leafs can’t afford to sign another double-figure deal.

In the meantime however, Nylander can cash in a lot of money with Sherwood Hockey, who’s been making significant signings lately including first overall pick Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks.

On Wednesday, Sherwood posted on their Tik Tok account a video of Nylander, announcing that he would be with the brand.

Sherwood Hockey is certainly putting together an impressive roster which includes the likes of Matthew Tkachuk, Mikko Rantanen, Alex DeBrincat, and now Bedard and Nylander.

Sure this is a new contract for Nylander, but it isn’t the one Maple Leafs’ fans have been waiting for. The Finnish forward is entering the final year of his current contract, and he’d like to earn what he sees as fair compensation for his services with his next deal. However, new Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has already used up what was left of his team’s salary cap space with the new contracts for Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Reaves and Max Domi.

This makes for quite the financial puzzle in Toronto.

Nylander has one more season remaining on his contract that carries an annual average value of $6,962,366. In 521 career NHL games, all with the Leafs, he’s scored 177 goals (including having scored a career high 40 last season) and 253 assists for 430 career points.
