Wings lose another skilled player with Athanasiou out for weeks

Talk about bad luck only getting worse. 

The Detroit Red Wings recently learned that they’ll be without the services of leading scorer Anthony Mantha for the next four weeks with a rib injury. 

And now, to add further insult, they’ll now be without speedy forward Andreas Athanasiou for at least the next two weeks, possibly three due to a lower body injury. 

Athanasiou ranks fifth on the team with 19 points, having scored five goals with 14 assists. 

In his absence, forward Givani Smith has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins. 

Forward Valterri Filppula, who missed the last game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, could play tonight against the San Jose Sharks.
