The Detroit Red Wings are set to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Little Caesars Arena, where they will look to earn their third win in the past four games.
They'll have defenseman Brian Lashoff available for tonight's game, recently recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins after Jonathan Ericsson was placed on IR.
It wasn't the greatest of days for the team defense - the team revealed today that Danny DeKeyser is scheduled to have back surgery and is likely to miss the rest of the season.
After a 4-2 home loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, head coach Jeff Blashill told reporters there is an illness spreading through the Red Wings’ dressing room. He said it affected about half his roster. Let’s hope things are better for the players as they face the Jackets tonight.
Meanwhile, goaltender Jimmy Howard has been sent to the Griffins on a conditioning assignment; he'll play tonight against the San Diego Gulls.
The Red Wings will also be facing former teammate Gustav Nyqvist, who makes his first appearance at Little Caesars Arena as a member of the opposition. Nyqvist was traded to the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline last season, and helped them to the Western Conference Finals. He signed a four-year contract with Columbus this offseason. The Swedish forward has seven goals and 14 assists in 33 games so far in his first year with the Jackets.
