The Winnipeg Jets have locked up their prized defenceman Dustin Byfuglien! The big, talented blueliner inked a 5 year deal, worth $7.6 million annually. This will come as a good sign for most Jets fans, as recent talks had boiled down to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff having to decide to sign either Byfuglien or team captain, Andrew Ladd and the Jets faithful had almost unanimously agreed that "Big Buff" was the man they wanted.

With that decision made, and the likelihood of Andrew Ladd heading out of town soon, what is next for the NHL's 26th ranked team?

I do not believe that losing Ladd is the answer, it just appears to be a part of the business in this case. With players like Jacob Trouba, Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry all with contracts that end July 1st and all three are expected to get very large raises, Ladd ask asking for north of $ 6.5 million per year is too high of a cost for a team who builds from within.

Many Jets fans are asking the question "Why don't we trade Ladd already?". The question that needs to be asked is, do we trust our GM? That answer is simple for myself, Yes! We are coming up on the anniversary of the incredible Evander Kane trade, which saw the Jets unload one of the most disliked men ever to play sports in this city and pick up a slew of talent in return including Tyler Myers and Drew Stafford. He's drafted an amazing group of young talent and has the majority of the city believing in a very bright future.

Even with their All-Star Byfuglien signed and happy to be a part of the organization, Winnipeg fans will continue to wait for the impending trades, signings and scenarios that are to come in the next 3 weeks.
