This would be a major deal - but would Yzerman even agree to it?

The 2022-23 NHL season for the Winnipeg Jets came to an unceremonious close earlier this spring against the Vegas Golden Knights, bowing out in a quick five game series. And immediately after their season ended, the sparring between head coach Rick Bowness and former captain Blake Wheeler was made public, giving fans a foreshadowing of what will likely be a summer of major changes.

One player who is entering the final season of his contract is goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who is arguably the most important figure on the roster. If the Jets are considering beginning a rebuilding process, there's no doubt that Hellebuyck would want to seek greener pastures having just turned 30 years old.

What if his hometown Detroit Red Wings came calling?

A blockbuster deal has been proposed by the Winnipeg Sun that would see not only see the Michigan-born Hellebuyck dealt to the Red Wings, but for the latter to pay a hefty sum.

The full proposed trade: The Jets acquire goaltender Ville Husso as well as the Red Wings’ No. 9 pick in the upcoming NHL draft, plus prospect Marco Kasper in exchange for Hellebuyck:

"In theory, it makes a lot of sense. Hellebuyck is from the area and the idea of taking the hometown team back to its glory days is storybook stuff. But what would Steve Yzerman be willing to part with? Moritz Seider? Not a chance. Lucas Raymond? Ditto.

Prospect centre Marco Kasper, goalie Ville Husso and Detroit’s ninth-overall pick next month? You’d certainly pick up the phone."

As Randy Jackson would infamously say on several occasions during his time on American Idol: "Yeah, that's gonna be a no from me, dawg."

How about you, Red Wings and Jets fans?
