WWE superstar 'Edge' pays tribute to a former Maple Leaf.
WWE superstar Edge, real name Adam Copeland, paid tribute to a former member of his hometown team on Friday night.
We are still many days from the return of hockey in the National Hockey League but on Friday night some lucky fans in Toronto got a little bit of hockey content where you might have least expected to find it.
On Friday night, the superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) were in town for the latest edition of Friday Night Smackdown and it would be during the broadcast of that show that a former Maple Leaf would receive a special tribute.
One of the superstars on hand for the show on Friday night was Adam Copeland, better known by his in-ring name "Edge." Edge is a native of Orangeville, Ontario and has never been shy about showing off his love for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he did so in a very special way on Friday night.
Not only did Edge sport Maple Leafs' inspired attire when he walked out to the ring to speak to fans who were in attendance on Friday night, but some sharp-eyed observers noticed a special patch on his arm as well. That patch was a tribute to Maple Leafs legend Borje Salming, who passed away in November of last year, a tremendous show of class from Edge who was under no obligation to do anything of the sort.
Here's another shot of Edge wearing the patch while hugging his family:
As a native of Ontario, Edge has always been a hometown favorite when the WWE comes to Toronto, and this will no doubt only serve to add to his ever growing number of fans in the area.
