Tuesday night at UBS Arena was one for the New Jersey Devils’ highlight reel… of embarrassment. Playing the New York Islanders on the road, the Devils were dominated, with Isles forward Anthony Duclair lighting the scoreboard on fire with a hat trick.

But the humiliation didn’t stop there. When the scoreboard indicated that New York was up 5-0, a Devils jersey was thrown onto the ice in shame. The kicker? It was a PK Subban jersey from his New Jersey days, and Subban was calling the game live on ESPN+ from the booth.

Fans got to see his reaction in real time… and he couldn’t help but laugh, adding that the fan who threw it should have asked him for an autograph instead. But you can tell, Subban thinks this is hilarious.

I mean… What are the odds? The jersey toss and Subban witnessing it all in real time made for a perfect storm of irony.

Sometimes hockey delivers moments that are just too good to script.

Subban also reposted the video and reacted online with the swagger he is known for:

The game ended with the Devils being completely blown out by the Islanders by a 9-0 score. I guess it's better to laugh about it...
