It hasn’t been the ideal start for Mitch Marner with the Vegas Golden Knights this season, and the ending of Tuesday’s game against the New York Islanders surely didn’t help to make it better.

While Marner recorded just his sixth tally of the season, the subpar statistic was quickly overshadowed by his shootout attempt later once overtime solved nothing to the 4-4 tie.

Marner was called up to shoot only to end up mishandling the puck, losing it completely without even getting a chance at beating Isles goalie Ilya Sorokin.

To make things worse, Marner was not the only one from Vegas to miss out on his shootout attempt that same night. Moments following Marner’s fumble, his teammate Shea Theodore also lost the puck, and the Islanders weren’t going to pass another chance like this.

Emil Heineman found the back of the net on his attempt and the Islanders got the 5-4 win at home.

In a season where every point matters, Vegas will be feeling this one for a while.
