Young defenseman on the move in small, last-minute deal.

We have a very minor trade to report.

In a last minute trade the New Jersey Devils have acquired 28-year-old veteran forward Shane Harper, a career American Hockey League player, at the deadline. In exchange the Devils have sent 23-year-old defenseman Reece Scarlett, also a career AHLer at least thus far, back the other way.

It's a confusing deal if only because we're not sure what value either organization sees in this as a deadline deal, with neither player seemingly set to have an impact on the NHL this season.

Scarlett is the young player here so so perhaps the Panthers view this as a move that will benefit the long-term, but the move from New Jersey is genuinely confusing from the outside looking in.
