A senseless tragedy has cost a young hockey player his life far too soon.
A young hockey player has lost his life after a senseless tragedy occurred in the early hours of Friday morning on a college campus.
3 victims were struck by gunfire Friday at a Lambton College campus bar in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada with 1 victim losing his life and 2 others suffering non-life threatening injuries.
The deceased has now been identified as 20 year old hockey player Dane Nisbet, a former member of the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Nisbet had previously played for the Mooretown Flags but was most recently a member of the North Middlesex Stars, a team he joined while attempting to join the Canadian navy.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting at this time and although law enforcement did release a statement, they were not prepared to provide any additional details regarding the nature of the shooting.
"We are not ready to say what the relationship between the potential suspects and the victims are … multiple victims are known to each other. But we will not be commenting at this point what the relationships of the suspects are," said Police Service Deputy Chief Mike Van Sickle.
Mooretown Flags general manager John Baker summed up this situation perfectly.
"A nice young man," said Baker as per the Sarnia Observer. "It’s unfortunate . . . It shouldn’t be happening to 19-, 20-year-olds. It all seems pretty senseless to me."
I can only hope that those responsible for taking the life of this young man far too soon are brought to justice.
