Young hockey player remains hospitalized days after collapsing during outdoor workout.

A young man remains in hospital this week after being hospitalized last Thursday in critical condition following an outdoor workout with his new hockey team.

Arizona State University confirmed the incident had occurred when they released a statement via their vice president of media relations and strategic communications Chris Fiscus.

"The university offers its support for the student-athlete, their family and all of our student-athletes during this difficult time," said Fiscus in the statement.

While the school did not disclose any details about the incident, a report from Chris Karpman of the Sun Devils Source indicates that the student collapsed around 8:30 am on Thursday morning and was administered to hospital in critical condition where he remained as of Sunday.

While the identity of the player is being withheld both for the sake of his medical privacy and for his family, we do know that he was one of 18 newcomers to the Sun Devils hockey roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season. What makes this even more tragic is that it occurred on the first day of ASU's fall semester.

The incident followed what was reportedly a 45 minutes workout session and given the timing you have to wonder if it may not have been one of the very first workouts of the season.

This is of course a very sad story and one that some believe should have been avoided.
