Young lady flattened by giant teddy bear during annual teddy bear toss.

An unfortunate accident.

Over the last several years the hockey world has embraced a rather unique tradition around the time of holiday celebrations, I am of course talking about the teddy bear toss.

A teddy bear toss is a designated day in which hockey fans of a certain team are strongly encouraged to bring a stuffed toy, usually in the form of a bear, to the hockey game in order to throw it on the ice. This isn't some form of protest or display of displeasure from the fans, but instead it is a deliberate charity event organized to gather presents for children who are growing up in more difficult circumstances around this time of the year.

During a moment in the game, usually after the first goal scored by the home team, the game will come to a pause and the fans will shower the ice with hundreds and hundreds of stuffed animals. It's a beautiful tradition and one that has been picked up by several hockey teams around the world, especially in North America, but this weekend we saw something we had never before seen during a teddy bear toss.

This particular event was organized by the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League, the affiliate team for the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, and based on the video it appears to have been a strong success. One fan however decided to go over the top with his teddy bear, bringing a massive stuffed animal to the event to donate to young children in need. The deed itself is a beautiful gesture and I don't want to criticize the person who brought this stuffed animal in any way, but the end result of this massive thing being thrown on the ice was a little unfortunate.

As you will see in the video below, one young lady that has been tasked with picking up the bears off of the ice in order for them to be donated gets flattened by this huge bear, sending her crashing to the ice. The video cuts off quickly but we do get to see her bounce back up and it looks like she's ok, thankfully it appears as though she had a soft bed of stuffed animals to absorb much of her fall.
