The hockey world is mourning the loss of promising young forward Yegor Yadykin following a tragic incident that occurred earlier this week during a hunting trip. The cause of death was an unintentional discharge.

Yadykin, who played for HC Norilsk in Russia’s VHL, died on June 10 at just 21 years old. The news was later confirmed by both his club and Russian authorities.

According to reports from Russia, Yadykin had been traveling with his grandfather near Salavat in the Republic of Bashkortostan when a hunting trip ended in tragedy. Authorities have since opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is believed that the gun discharged in the car and instantly killed Yadykin. His grandfather, overcome with grief in the moment, would have turned the gun on himself.

So tragic...

The loss has sent shockwaves through the Russian hockey community.

HC Norilsk released a statement describing Yadykin as not only a promising player but also a selfless teammate who consistently put the team first.

“The news of Egor’s sudden departure came as a shock to everyone in our club,” the organization said. “Our club will provide all necessary assistance to the player’s family and friends.”

Former club Avangard Omsk also paid tribute, remembering Yadykin as a kind and positive person whose passion for hockey left a lasting impression on those around him.

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation expressed its condolences as well, offering support to Yadykin’s family, friends, teammates, and loved ones.

Yadykin began his hockey journey in his hometown before moving through the Vityaz Podolsk and Avangard Omsk systems. He represented Russia at various youth levels and was considered a promising talent within the country’s development program.

During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 46 VHL games for HC Norilsk.

He was just 21 years old.
